What is DALI?

Understanding DALI version-1

- DALI is an abbreviation for "Digital Addressable Lighting Interface."

- DALI is a data transmission protocol specifically designed for lighting control systems, defining the digital communication method between lighting devices (various types of lamp drivers) and system device controllers (such as lighting controllers, sensors, etc.).

- DALI supports the concept of an "open system" to ensure compatibility between DALI devices produced by different manufacturers. DALI has now become part of the IEC 62386 series of international standards.

Characteristics of DALI

Control capabilities of a DALI (single) system

- Up to 64 addressable (lighting) drivers on a single DALI bus (independent address)

- Up to 16 lighting groups (group address)

- Up to 16 lighting scenes (scene presets)

Built-in preset parameters in typical DALI (lighting) drivers

- Independent address, group address specification

- Minimum and maximum brightness values

- 16 lighting scene presets, dimming rate presets

- Brightness value at power-on

Expansion application capabilities of the DALI system

- Real-time query of the working status of lighting drivers and even light sources

- Can connect up to 64 lighting control panels or sensors simultaneously for intelligent lighting control

- Access to building automation systems through DALI gateway devices

- Achieve intelligent control through dedicated controllers or actuators connected to the DALI interface

Principle of DALI - Group Control

- A driver can set up to 16 lighting groups (group address)

- Set in advance according to design needs using configuration tools

- Any driver can join a group or be removed from a group

What is DALI-2?
DALI-2 is the second major version of the DALI protocol series standard IEC 62386, known as DALI Version 2, which is the latest version. The standard notation is DALI-2. DALI-2 adds new features, achieves interoperability, and introduces standardization of control devices and equipment, while being backward compatible with DALI v-1.
