DALI Product Knowledge

1. Understanding the DALI Protocol

DALI is the international standard for digital lighting control, fully known as the Digital Addressable Lighting Interface standard. It is an open asynchronous serial digital communication protocol. The DALI protocol is a dedicated lighting control protocol used solely for lighting systems and can easily connect with Building Automation Systems (BAS), serving as a complement to BAS.

3. Basic Knowledge of DALI

(1) DALI is the international standard for digital lighting control, fully known as the Digital Addressable Lighting Interface standard.

(2) The communication speed of DALI is 1200 bps, with a maximum transmission distance of 300 meters, and it can form a network with up to 64 short addresses or 16 group addresses. A master can control one or more slaves.

(3) The voltage on the DALI bus is 16V, with a high level range of 9.5-22.5V and a low voltage level of -6.5V to 6.5V.

(4) DALI management commands: On/Off, Dimming, Lighting Scenes, Status Monitoring.

On/Off: Can switch independent DALI electronic ballast groups or all ballasts in the system.

Dimming: Used to adjust the brightness of electronic ballasts and lamps, ranging from 0.1% to 100%. To ensure the lifespan of the lamps, the minimum brightness in practical applications should generally not be less than 3%.

Lighting Scenes: Up to 16 lighting scenes can be set and implemented in a DALI system.

Status Monitoring: Used to display or obtain the status of electronic ballasts and lamps.
